Truth Telling and Community Healing
The Culture, Family, and Learning Workgroup from the Trauma Recovery Project, the Cultural Wellness Center and the UROC Team would like to cordially invite you to attend a Truth Telling and Community Healing ceremony about the experiences and lessons learned from the Mother Emanuel Nine of Charleston, South Carolina.
In the aftermath of the Mother Emanuel Nine tragedy that took place on June 25th, and the rash of church burnings across the south that have followed, our community needs healing. This Truth Telling and Community Healing Ceremony is open to people of all cultural groups to examine and share our experiences and emotions surrounding these incidents.
During this time participants will be asked to self-identify, and have discussions within, their own cultural groups. The mission is to learn lessons from the experiences we share in letting go of the residuals of paralyzing pain that comes with racialization as we move to learn to embrace and understand culture.
